FINALLY; a project come to fruition

I feel like I’ve been posting a lot of “updates” and “stay tuned for something new” with nothing really of substance. I apologize for that. I feel like I’m doing a small part of so many things that I’m not doing any of them all that well! I’m sure those of you with attention spans as short as mine can relate! Anyway, this is a VERY small victory, but a victory none the less. I had an idea for an embellished shoe for little girls. I don’t have a little girl, but I have a lot of friends and family who have little girls and who doesn’t want to work on something with frills or ruffles? I always do.

Fancy Feet

So, I dreamed about this particular embellishment project for a few days and last night/today at lunch, it produced an actual shoe. I’m not sure it’s complete. I think I may add some polka dot fabric to the tongue. The fabrics are Moda from a few years back (about 4, I think). They’re leftover from a quilt I made for my first niece, Ava. (Her brother is my new nephew, Mason, and is pictured here with their Mom, my bff and cousin Alicia. She lets me be their auntie even though I’m technically their second cousin once removed, or something.) So, I LOVED the fabrics so much that I went back and bought more thinking I might have a little girl of my own some day and I loved her quilt so much I thought I might make it similar. My little girl turned out to be a boy and I never got much further than a few quilt blocks. So, I have lots of this fabric and I still love it just as much as I did 4 ½ years ago. But, back to the real point of this post…

These are a bit Punky Brewster-ish, but in a modern way, I think. I love how they turned out. I think the ruffle is just the thing to make it fun and girl-up the more athletic tom-boy type shoe. I feel like I would want a bunch of these if I had a little girl. What do you think?

Do you have a little girl? Do you just want these shoes? I have no idea how much it costs to make them yet, but I think I might put a few pair in my Etsy shop. They’re certainly going to be little girl gifts for this coming year! Would you like to know how to make them? I’ve never really done a tutorial, but I thought I might try…Interested? They’re not hard, but they are a little detailed and a little sticky in some places. I still have to spray them with some sealant to make them more outdoor friendly. I was inspired by these shoes (at Make It and Love It) for big girls! Honestly, I may make myself a pair in the next week or two…or maybe when the walk is over!

I’m swamped with walk planning! If you want to support me, or breastfeeding in general, please ask me for more information about our upcoming walk at Hawk Island Park in Lansing, Michigan on Sunday, September 20, 2009! Well, my break is nearly over, so I’m going to get back to work…I would LOVE your feedback about the Fancy Feet! (What do you think of the name?)
