Updates…and a few projects

My new nephew with his mommy

My new nephew with his mommy

So, I’ve been pretty busy.  I didn’t mean to stay away so long, but a new nephew, a training and a sweet baby boy can do that to you…and that doesn’t even cover the projects I’ve been working on.  I have about a million things on my mind lately.  Here’s a few of them:

  • Our La Leche League group is having a fundraiser/walk/family fun event and I’m one of the main planners.  I’ve never had an event like this or even helped with one, so this is unchartered, but very exciting territory.  Check out our website or e-mail me for more information.  We’re still looking for vendors and we would love for you to walk too!  It’s at Hawk Island Park in Lansing, Michigan.  If you have never been there, it is definitely a must see!  That park is REALLY COOL!
  • My new nephew Mason was born on 7/23.  He was in MI with his mama and his older sister Ava for a few days.  He is GORGEOUS!  I really wish I had known they were coming so I could’ve taken more time off work.  Boo for real jobs!
  • I had a training from the Michigan Breastfeeding Network called the Business Case for Breastfeeding.  It was designed to train us to approach businesses and encourage them to start lactation support programs for their employees.  I’ll do a separate post about why this is a GREAT idea for the business!
  • I’ve been working on an idea for a debit card wallet.  I’m trying to scale down what I carry in my purse and this is an integral part of it.  I’ve seen some out there, but none of them are quite what I’m looking for.  So, I am coming up with my own.  But, it still needs a bit of tweaking.
  • I’m thinking of getting an iPhone.  The old 3G one since they’re pretty cheap now.  What do you think?  Do you have one?  Do you love it?
  • My etsy shop name.  I haven’t gotten many ideas from readers, but I came up with this one on my own: Holden out for Handmade.  Holden is my son’s name.  You’d say the name, like “holdin.”  I had the idea that my categories could be Holden Parties (for invitations), Holden up your image (clothes and accessories) and Holden up the home (home decor items).  Corny?  My little tagline would be “A Craftee Gyrl’s quest for embellishments to a beautiful life.”
  • I’ve been dreaming up a car seat accessory…don’t want to give away more than that.  Check back for more after the weekend!
  • I’m going to try some t-shirt refashions.  They’re out there everywhere and they look like so much fun!  Plus, I’m always scared to try clothes, but I think I can totally do this.  Look for fun tutorials here, here, and here.
  • A friend and I tried making a cake shaped like a purse.  We always do a test cake first to see what we can do initially.  It really helps because then you get a lot of ideas as to what you can improve.  Very stimulating for your creativity!  It turned out pretty well, but I have LOTS of ideas on where we can improve!
  • We went to a place called Tree House in Chelsea, Michigan.  Very Cool Place!  Check it out here.
  • I just read Jane Green’s Dune Road.  Not her best, but pretty good!

Honestly, I could go on all day…but I won’t bore you (or give you reason to suggest some sort of institution)!  Hope you’re having a great Friday and that you enjoy your weekend!  I should have some more to show you on Monday, if not before!

Seuss Shower

Shower Invitation

Shower Invitation

Need a theme for a baby shower?  Have a Bedtime Story Baby Shower…

I got the idea from The Hostess With the Mostess…If you don’t subscribe to their blog, you should!  It’s SO fun!

Anyway, a friend and I made a cake shaped like a bed, with pillows and teddy graham animals and even a kit kat headboard!  It turned out really well and we aren’t any kind of professional cake decorators!  All in all, the shower was a blast and I hope the mommy has fond memories of it like I do.  Now, if you want to have a Seuss-esque baby shower of your own, head on over to my etsy shop so I can get started on your invitations!

Orders…and something new to come!

My first orders for Etsy

My first orders for Etsy

Well, I’ve got my first etsy orders ready and will drop them off at the post office in the morning. Phew! I hope they love them! I also took quite a few trips to Volunteers of America as they had the best deals on used jeans. It was still hit or miss as to pricing and sizing of the pockets. Luckily though, I remembered that my very best friend’s dad is the manager at the St. Vincent de Paul store a very short way from my house (well, 40 minutes). Anyway, I called him and I will now be the very lucky recipient of the rear pockets of all of their too-dirty-or-holey-to-sell jeans for a VERY reasonable price! So, my dears – the lesson is once you find a product that someone is looking for, keep tossing over ideas in your mind until you have the process and the supplies fine-tuned and efficient. My techy-engineer-project manager-efficiency-king husband should be very proud of me for mentioning that in my post 🙂

Anyway, I know I’ve been promising a little something new…so in an effort not to disappoint, I’d better get offline and into my studio…Hope to be back soon with a finished product! Wish me luck 🙂

I’m SO excited!

My Favorite Blog Today

I’ve got the Pointer Sisters singing in my head because, “I’m SO excited and I just can’t hide it!”

Check this out...I made this!

Check this out...I made this!

My cowboy invitations that are listed here on etsy were featured on a blog!  A real blog – that people read! Can you hear the sisters now? Now, I know this is small…but for me it feels SO good! So, anyway, check it out here…Thank you again Catrina! You’ve REALLY made my day! And, let me just tell you that I forgot my umbrella, had to park at a meter so I wasn’t completely soaked and STILL got REALLY, REALLY wet! SO, making my day on a day that started with that is just SUPER and will surely win you some points with karma. Thanks again…

and to everyone who is laughing to themselves, saying “This girl is such a nerd.” you are right…but I’m too happy to care!

A theme I want to try – Cirque du Bebe

Isn't this SO fun?!?

Isn't this SO fun?!?

There are quite a few baby shower themes I want to try, but I nearly always want to try whatever is going on at Hostess with the Mostess. They just do amazing spreads with beautiful, ingenious ideas! Their latest is this cirque du bebe theme.

My cousin is having a baby boy anyday now and I really want to throw her a Welcome 2nd baby Mason party and I think this is the perfect theme! She LOVES cirque du soleil…If I can find room in the budget and get them from Ohio to Michigan, I think this might be the makings of a fun party! If you’re working on a baby shower and are less than inspired, check out the Hostess with the Mostess. Remember, you can adapt other shower and party themes to work with baby too! You’re no longer limited by your imagination – only your typing and googling skills!

Cowboy Baby Shower or Birthday Party

Cowboy Invite

Cowboy Invite

Here are some invitations I just added to my etsy shop…These would be super fun for a baby shower or a child’s birthday party!  I’m thinking of turning this into a whole theme party package.  I’d add a banner that could say Happy Birthday, Congrats or Chuck Wagon (for the food table)!  I was thinking of little favors to add too…maybe decorated favor boxes or bag.  Then, the party-giver could fill them with peanuts or another appropriate food/candy.  Let me know what you think!  Tomorrow, I’ll try to post another project I’ve been working on!
