Updates…and a few projects

My new nephew with his mommy

So, I’ve been pretty busy.  I didn’t mean to stay away so long, but a new nephew, a training and a sweet baby boy can do that to you…and that doesn’t even cover the projects I’ve been working on.  I have about a million things on my mind lately.  Here’s a few of them:

  • Our La Leche League group is having a fundraiser/walk/family fun event and I’m one of the main planners.  I’ve never had an event like this or even helped with one, so this is unchartered, but very exciting territory.  Check out our website or e-mail me for more information.  We’re still looking for vendors and we would love for you to walk too!  It’s at Hawk Island Park in Lansing, Michigan.  If you have never been there, it is definitely a must see!  That park is REALLY COOL!
  • My new nephew Mason was born on 7/23.  He was in MI with his mama and his older sister Ava for a few days.  He is GORGEOUS!  I really wish I had known they were coming so I could’ve taken more time off work.  Boo for real jobs!
  • I had a training from the Michigan Breastfeeding Network called the Business Case for Breastfeeding.  It was designed to train us to approach businesses and encourage them to start lactation support programs for their employees.  I’ll do a separate post about why this is a GREAT idea for the business!
  • I’ve been working on an idea for a debit card wallet.  I’m trying to scale down what I carry in my purse and this is an integral part of it.  I’ve seen some out there, but none of them are quite what I’m looking for.  So, I am coming up with my own.  But, it still needs a bit of tweaking.
  • I’m thinking of getting an iPhone.  The old 3G one since they’re pretty cheap now.  What do you think?  Do you have one?  Do you love it?
  • My etsy shop name.  I haven’t gotten many ideas from readers, but I came up with this one on my own: Holden out for Handmade.  Holden is my son’s name.  You’d say the name, like “holdin.”  I had the idea that my categories could be Holden Parties (for invitations), Holden up your image (clothes and accessories) and Holden up the home (home decor items).  Corny?  My little tagline would be “A Craftee Gyrl’s quest for embellishments to a beautiful life.”
  • I’ve been dreaming up a car seat accessory…don’t want to give away more than that.  Check back for more after the weekend!
  • I’m going to try some t-shirt refashions.  They’re out there everywhere and they look like so much fun!  Plus, I’m always scared to try clothes, but I think I can totally do this.  Look for fun tutorials here, here, and here.
  • A friend and I tried making a cake shaped like a purse.  We always do a test cake first to see what we can do initially.  It really helps because then you get a lot of ideas as to what you can improve.  Very stimulating for your creativity!  It turned out pretty well, but I have LOTS of ideas on where we can improve!
  • We went to a place called Tree House in Chelsea, Michigan.  Very Cool Place!  Check it out here.
  • I just read Jane Green’s Dune Road.  Not her best, but pretty good!

Honestly, I could go on all day…but I won’t bore you (or give you reason to suggest some sort of institution)!  Hope you’re having a great Friday and that you enjoy your weekend!  I should have some more to show you on Monday, if not before!
